I am very surprised that birds can survive surgery. It is amazing what can be done now. I am glad he is better.<br />

I also feed my parrotlets Goldenfeast. She has only 10% seed in her diet and that is Volkman with no sunflower seed.Frozen vegetables with carrots and peas are a timesaver. Birdy Bread and almonds are her favorites too.

Comment on Can't Find Seed Guards for Bird Cages

Hi. After many bruised knees I removed the seed guards from my cage and went to Menard's, bought a sheet of the thinner plexi-glass, and a cutter. Cut them to fit between the bottom grate and the seed tray. I used sticky Velcro that I cut in half length wise. Edged the plexi with it and the cage on the outside. Perfect fit easy to remove and the dog can't get in there either. If you don't want to use a lot of velcro, you can just buy the little circular velcro tabs and put in on at key spots.

Comment on Flighted Birds in Home Office

i have had the pleasure of living with the most beautiful canary for the last 7 years. he sings beautifully. when i took in a sparrow 5 yrs. ago, they seemed to enjoy each others company so much when they were out of their cages. so i let them stay out 24/7. they had a large cage with food, water, toys, etc. to use as home base. i have a bedroom with just ring neck doves in it. the canary and the sparrow would retreat into that room to stay out of trouble with my bigger birds,incl. a blue and gold macaw, 2 cockatoos, and other smaller birds. they did very well. after 5 years, the sparrow developed tumors and died. the canary had learned to make sparrow sounds and even to this day i hear him "talk" sparrow quite a bit. the canary is still out all the time and seems healthy and happy.<br />
however i think this is the exception to the rule that a small bird like a canary can sometimes panic and fly into things when out of its cage. so i am privileged to have such a unique bird. generally, unless you get a laid back canary like mine, canaries are best kept in cages most of the time. that's just my experience.

Comment on Grace is a little girl who needs your help

It's always nice to help others.

</rdf:RDF>
