Travel Bird Cage for Senegal Parrot
Thank you. I asked about the bar size because I want to be prepared and think about what I'll do if he starts biting through the bars . He's a Senegal parrot, but he's old and he's been in a small cage for at least a year, at the breeder's home.
His age is apparent from his white and grey feathers, and what appears to be a little bit of arthritis in the feet. The trainer says he never bites his bars or moves around much, but her house is packed with birds, so that occupies his attention. I've been searching and searching and decided on this cage.
It's actually larger than what he's used to. I'd love a cage with more height, but this is acceptable. He's got a manzanita perch for when I'm around. I've been changing apartments almost every year lately because of rent raises, so this will work out being easy to fold up. San Francisco rent is sky high.
I've got the exact same type
and size cage for my other bird, but it's by Petmate and it's really for a
dog. She's a miniature hen, so the bottom tray is good for her. I
also needed to stay on a strict budget. There are so many things to buy for a
new bird, plus I should get him checked out at the veterinarian. I see the
gauge is listed on the small version. I had a baby Senegal before this, so I am
familiar with this bird. This Senegal is so tame, the breeder took him out on her
front lawn, without holding him, and he perched on her shoulder.
Dear Shelby
This information is helpful. I have not gotten the wire gauge info yet and hope to have this info in our travel cage listings by end of day or tomorrow.
However, you say you have a Senegal. The #603 is pretty BIG for a Senegal, I would recommend the #602 myself.
The #603 is quite roomy but the bar spacing is larger than normal for a Senegal. It is great for a large bird but there is a bottom row (bar spacing) on the #603 that is wider than the normal 1 1/4" bar spacing, closer to 1 3/4".
Now you know your bird better than I. My own small bird I could put in a cage with wide spacing and he would not try to escape. But another might.
Your bird is elderly and slow so he may be fine in the large bar spaced cage. But the #602 would be the choice I would have made.
Please confirm, I do not wish to order a cage you will not be happy with. We can change the cage to a #602 if you like.

Thank you
