Right Bird Cage for a Small Room

A customer called yesterday. She was down sizing and moving from a single family home to a small condo. Her African Grey parrot was due for a new bird cage and she was looking at the Prevue 3156 Corner Bird Cage and a Prevue 3162 Dome Top Bird Cage.

Although both are on the small side for Greys, she just didn't have that much room to work with and the bird was out of the cage a lot. Her question was "which one will be less noticeable in the room?" Yikes - less noticeable? It's really hard to visually tone down a bird cage with a big grey parrot in a small room.

Generally speaking if you see a bird cage in a big retail store, it will always look bigger when you get it home in a smaller space. We advise people, especially when buying a bird cage on line to make a "template" cut a piece of cardboard or construction paper the size of the cage (length x width) and lay it on the floor. Don't forget seed guards typically add about 10 inches  front-to-back-side-to-side. Leave it there for a day or two. See if human and other pet traffic are able to move around without bumping into the cage.

Getting back to our customers question we decided to go with the corner cage because it was white going in a room with white walls. That's really the best bet. Obviously a black cage in a room with light colored furniture and white walls will be very apparent. For some the perfect scenario, for others - not so much
