What kind of birds need grit in their diet?

If they are parrots (budgies up to Macaws) they do NOT require grit for their digestion. ONLY softbills do, like canaries, finches, quail, etc.

Hookbills (all parrots) MAY eat some but very little as too much will make them ill.

Hookbills crack their seed when eating, so they do not need grit.

Softbills (canaries, etc) do as they swallow their seed whole and need the additional grit to break down the hulls in their gizzards.

Birds also do not eat it daily unless they need it, it can be ignored for a long time, then gobbled up in a short time when needed.
