What’s The Click; Taking our bird relationships further
By Scott Robins
Head Trainer, for Scott Robins Edutainment, Inc.
Okay folks, for those of you that have been following my blog posts, you have learned how to introduce your bird to the meaning of a box clicker and you should have success with target training. For those of you that need a visual aide, go to my videos at www.youtube.com/scottr751 and take a look at some of the posted samples. If you are having success with target training, the next step is to teach your bird a couple of simple prop based behaviors.
At this time, I want to introduce all of you to a great on line bird training group. Welcome to the Bird-Click Group at http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bird-Click/. This group is a fantastic group of both amateur and professional trainers that share information and teach you the techniques to teach your bird all kinds of behaviors. This group was started by Melinda Johnson and Wendy Jeffries and you will find a wealth of information there. Through Bird-Click you will gain access to a lot of free on line resources and videos that are posted by the members.
Thank you to Mitch and Catherine from WindyCityParrot.com, I enjoy helping clients learn and this has been a great opportunity to introduce the readers to some foundational training skills.
It’s Storm Season
A few nights ago, the tornado sirens went off. At 10:15pm at night I found myself scrambling to get 3 kids, my wife, 3 dogs, and 9 parrots into secure shelter in my basement. Here is a wake up call. How many of you are truly prepared to get your family and pets into a safe situation quickly WITH SUPPLIES?
I want to suggest that everyone set up a shelter space with supplies for pets and humans alike. If you do not have an appropriate travel cage or crate for your bird, now is the time to get one. You can store the travel cage in your safe shelter when not needed so it is always there. Make sure that you have a small supply of food as well as some bottled water kept in your safe shelter.
Check out the great selection of portable travel cages here at WindyCityParrot.com. In addition to your pet supplies, make sure you have a supply of essential needs items for yourself and your family. Flashlights, battery powered radios, and extra batteries are also a good addition to your family emergency kit. Get out your pen and paper. Make yourself a preparation list. Take action. For those of you that do this all ready, make sure that none of your supplies are outdated and make sure that you have fresh batteries.
Best Regards,
