I bought this for my Blue and Gold Macaw. She is 28 years old and to my knowledge, the first time ever wearing any type of harness. She allows me to put this on her with very minimal work.
She does get a little jumpy right when the harness touches her, and will try to remove it by biting the strap that goes around her neck. However, it is very easy to hook all the straps and they are all connected within 15-20 seconds.
She does bite at the neck strap while it is on and there is a little bit of wear and tear from this, but it has held up quite well considering beak size and strength, and it is still in good shape to use. I've had it for 1 month now and it's been on her everyday for around 1 1/2-2 hours (walking and sitting outside).
During this time, the neck strap chewing continues, but has lessened tremendously. Extra info: She is a plucker and has no feathers on her back or tummy (adopted her in December- she had an abusive past and has plucked for over 10 years) and I do believe this contributes significantly to her biting the straps, but the chewing is not nearly what I thought it would be. I've tried an avian flight suit and aviator harness and she would not wear them and attempting to put them on was a major hassle.
For me, this is the only one I've found that she'll tolerate that allows her to join in outside festivities!
