Continental Bird Cuisine
So I'm listening to Catherine on the phone after I walked in to the Birdie Boutique today. From Catherine's responses I know what's being asked on the other end. A woman clearly has several birds, all different species and she was seeking a single food that would satisfy her entire flock. My response would have been "good luck," (which is why Catherine handles much of the customer service). We get this question regularly. Let me give you our spin on this issue. Feijoada is a dish from Brazil where Hyacinths Macaws originate. Certain community dishes from Senegal are enjoyed in Africa where Senegal parrots come from. The Pavlova, a dessert is enjoyed where you'll find many species of Cockatoos, Australia. All very different foods from 3 different continents. Maybe, with a lot of work you can combine enough off-the-shelf bird food combinations to get 3 birds from different parts of the world, to agree upon - but can you see the challenge here? If you're lucky enough to have a flock remember, different birds from different continents have different tastes (and needs) - don't expect them all to like something just because it's convenient. A single food to satisfy a whole flock can be achieved, however I think it is not healthy for the birds. For example, all my parrots are on a zupreem pellet base. However, the similarities of their diets stop there. My caiques also have nectar in their diets. My macaw is regularly fed nuts, and my parrotlets are on a seed based diet due to their pellet sensitivity. I highly encourage all bird owners to look into their birds natural diet and customize their diet, for the health of the bird.
