I suggested she use cable ties (pictured below). She asked if the bird (Amazon) would chew them up - I said yes, but the just add more - great entertainment for the bird.

You can wrap a bunch of drinking straws with a cable tie - pull it tight and you have a straw blossom toy. Make a loop with the cable tie and you have a cable tie toy.

Every bird keeper should have a few cable ties.
