That said I know your bird is a baby but in a few short months that baby will still need a carrier and this carrier is safe for adult African greys. Baby parrots need supervision 100% of the time unless they are in the primary cage.

 With a baby parrot in your home you cannot let the bird out of your site when you bring it  into your living room, kitchen or bedroom because he or she just doesn't know any better just like baby children and they will find ways to get into trouble.  At the end of the day your bird would have use of this carrier will be safer in the carrier with the inch and a quarter bar spacing than not in the carrier with access to things like electrical lamp cords. 

I know we dote on our birds like we dote on our children - my suggestion would be to simply place a piece of wood or clear plastic over the top for next with three months - once the bird is fully grown you can remove the temporary top
