New Finch and Canary Canary Cage vs. Painting Old Bird Cage
|
Hi. I just ordered one of the double-wide aviaries for my finches/canary. I noticed that there only seemed to be one option for shipping (your free "standard.") How long does that normally take to ship?
This will be my third of these type of cages in the last few years...they seem to rust pretty easy. This time, I thought I'd repaint with Rustoleum instead of replacing. But after having done that, I'm now reading on the internet that Rustoleum can put off vapors that for a long time after it dries, so now I don't feel completely safe about putting my birds back in it. So, I've got my little guys separated into smaller cages and they're miserable (my two societies in one cage, my canary in another...and they're frantic all day from not being in the same cage). Anyway, I was wondering how long it normally takes to get the cages (I'm in Florida). Also, I noticed that you don't seem to offer the white anymore. Is that because they rust so easily? Is the platinum a better choice?
Thanks for your feedback and any help in getting the cage out faster!
Erica
========================== Thanks for the e-mail We will ship this to you directly out of Florida an since you are in Tampa, you should have it Friday or Monday at the latest we will give you tracking as soon as the package goes live in the shipping system. As for using Rustoleum it depends which one that you use - Rustoleum comes in various forms and you must use a water-based paint for bird cage. I suggest to people that they look for paint cans with pictures of baby cribs have the width is safe for babies is safe for birds. If you use water-based Rustoleum you should be fine - if it was solvent-based it could be a problem for the birds. If you're not sure let the cages sit outside for a week or two to let all vapors evaporate - that may help I would also need to know how you clean your cage certain cleaning methods can lead to more robust than others. we prefer using a hand-held steam cleaner every week or two in conjunction with poop off on a daily basisDon't worry about putting the birds in the smaller cages. They will be frantic for a day or two but they will adapt until you can get things back to normal. I know this may be a little late - but here are my tips for restoring a birdcageWe offer are colors available to us from our distributors. We actually prefer Platinum and suggest it over other colors because we feel it hides bird poop the best The cage is very easy to put together - should have a problem call me at the toll free number listed below Mitch Rezman

Thanks for your nice reply. We actually put the older, freshly painted with the wrong kind of rustoleum, double-wide aviary out this a.m. for the trash guys to take. We wanted to make sure no one else took it to use for their own birds, just in case it proves to be too toxic. It was definitely oil-based (no crib or baby safe on it) and even though it was outside, you could smell it as soon as you stepped on our back porch...and that's after almost a full day of "curing."
I actually figured out a way to latch together the two separate, smaller cages, so my little "bachelors" have a kind of multi-room cage complex for the interim, so the panic calling has stopped and now they're just active with trying to figure out their new set-up. I'll print off and use that cage restoration recommendation you sent for future use.
Thanks again! It was nice discovering you on the internet this a.m. I will look toward you guys in the future for any other bird-related accessories I may need.
Sincerely,
Erica

Both of you (I received a nice note from Mitch, as well), have been so wonderful! I order a lot of things via the internet, and I've never seen a group of people so proactive.
Thank you for understanding my concern over my birds. I hear so often that they are just "throwaway" birds (they're the small little guys, not the conures, love birds, on up), so a lot of people don't understand how the smaller birds can be just as important to you and should be treated with the same amount of care and love as, perhaps, dogs and cats (I have those, too...). But both of you seemed to "get it" and it's much appreciated.
All of us are looking forward to getting our new cage, and so soon, too!
Thank you again.
Erica (Tampa)
