I am thinking about getting this cage for the parrotlet I will soon bring home. However, I am concerned it might be too big, and the bird will be "lost" in it. Is it too big for a parrotlet? Wouldn't an 18x18, or 22 inch cage be sufficient? Also, is the roof of the gable cage a solid roof, or does it have the cage bars upon which the bird can climb? Would it be possible to attach twisty perches to the roof for the bird to play?
Thank you. I am new to parrotlets, and need help!
Anne
Hi Anne
Thanx for the email
A Parrotlet’s cage size is in fact a bit counter intuitive. Although a small bird, the smallest of all the parrots, a Parrotlet requires a larger cage then a comparable sized bird like a Budgie. The need for this space is because of their energy and acrobatics. 24” X 22” is actually where we start when we recommend Parrotlet cages. With Parrotlets, bigger is better when it comes to cage size as long as the bar spacing stays close to ½”.
Your bird won’t be “lost” but will thank you for the room to play around in.
The Gable Bird Cage by Marvelous does have bars on the roof so it would be possible to attach twisty perch to the roof area
